BD Klecany — Installation of Three Acond Heat Pumps
Challenge
The apartment building in Klecany was paying more and more for heating and needed a way to cut costs for the long term. The building management was considering heat pumps — but for an apartment building it is not as simple as buying one unit and plugging it in. We needed to design a system that could heat the entire building, connect to the existing pipework and deliver real savings for every resident.
Solution
We designed and installed three Acond air-to-water heat pumps. Why three? A single unit would not be enough for the whole building, and three smaller pumps offer better flexibility. If one goes in for service, the remaining two keep heating. We installed buffer tanks with a total volume of 1,500 litres to smooth out demand peaks. Distribution was done in press-fit copper for reliability and leak-proof joints, PPR for water supply and HT for waste pipes.
Result
The apartment building in Klecany heats differently now. And, more importantly, more cheaply. Three Acond heat pumps combined with buffer tanks efficiently heat the entire building, even when it is freezing outside. Residents see the difference on their bills and the building is prepared for future energy price increases. And because air-to-water systems do not require ground boreholes, the installation was simpler and cheaper than ground-source alternatives.
